Gaeta webcam with stunning view on Serapo beach and Fontania promontory. Webcam is hosted by Il Gazzetino del Golfo.
Gaeta is one of the most beautiful cities in the southern Italy Lazio region, but you won’t find it in many guidebooks. That’s because Gaeta lacks only one thing – a train station. In spite of this, it’s an extremely popular summertime destination because of its seven fabulous beaches. Locals and Italians from all over Italy flock to these beaches to soak up the sun and watch surfing events.
Whenever you visit, you’ll find plenty to do, from hiking Monte Orlando to see ancient ruins to wandering the old, narrow streets to shop and eat.
Visiting Gaeta is a great way to get a feel for the best of southern Italy – great food, friendly locals, tons of ambiance and a sense of history that ties everything together.
Gaeta’s tiny old city offers something for everyone. Stroll along the Lungomare (sea road) and watch fishermen ply their trade. Look up and see the walls of the Angevin-Aragonese castle, thick and strong, high above the city. (Unfortunately, you can’t visit the castle because the Italian military uses it.) The Romanesque bell tower, tucked away between buildings in the old city, was built in 915. Walk right up to it and look closely at the building materials. You’ll see blocks with carvings on them. Thrifty builders re-used items from ancient structures when they erected the tower. Be sure to stop for gelato at Il Molo or El Tiburon, at the far end of the old city in Piazza del Pesce.
Serapo Beach is the main beach of Gaeta. Close to the city center and the Medieval district, with many beach resorts.
Serapo is especially the beach of the people! The sea here is really clean and mums take here their children to bathe, given the vast choice of shores and resorts available in this kilometer and a half of golden sand.
From the shore you can admire the so-called Nave di Serapo (Serapo Ship), a great cliff whose elongated shape reminds of a ship. This rocky formation is easily reachable from the Fontania Beach.
