Blennies are small fish with long bodies and big eyes and a big mouth. They have long dorsal fins, and often have whiskers, and they spend most of the day on the seafloor, so the viewers can watch their various activities, feeding mainly on crustaceans.

There are larger fish Striped Bass, Bluefish and Weakfish that prey on Blennies. The blennies are solitary fish and sometimes you don’t see them because they hide in crevices. You may also see a shoal of Lookdowns, they are silvery in color with a sloping forehead and a protruding lower jaw. They can alter their silvery pigment to avoid detection providing camouflage against predators, they are very agile. They get their name from their unusual head structure. These fish inhabit the shallow coastal waters of the gulf or the sandy bottoms in the Tropical Atlantic and along the Texas Coast.
