Zagreb became one of the first cities in the world with a funicular, which runs on the promenade Gornji grad, already back in the year of 1890. “Old Lady” as the locals call it with respect, is known as one of the shortest such devices in the world. The central part of the Upper Town’s Market st. Mark with the same named church from the 13th century today due to the earthquake reconstruction shows a somewhat a different picture than when incurred. On the west side of the square stands Banska backyard, the former residence of Croatian Banov and today the seat of the Croatian Government.
